background

Jef started music at a very early age, begging his mother to enroll him in piano lessons. This implanted music in his soul, and when he began learning guitar by ear as a teenager, music became part of who he is. Belonging to various bands, he spent time as a guitarist, lead vocalist, bass player and keyboardist for various bands. Playing and recording with musicians from bands like Doubting Paris, Yuca, Stabilo and Dawntreader. This was time spent learning how to play all of these instruments at a professional level, and built up his ability to harmonize instantly.

He then went on to study music and recording at 6 different Universities and Colleges. This resulted in a BA in music, and a Diploma in recording arts. Jef was immersed in 6 years of intense Classical piano practicing at a University level as well as many courses on ear-training, sight-singing, composition, music theory, music history, and studio recording/production. All of this education built his skills up to understand music on an intimate level.

moving on

During his University time, he started to learn how to create music with a computer. A passion for Cubase and MIDI led him to a job as a Steinberg “Evangelist” getting paid to demonstrate many different music software programs. These include all of Steinberg’s products (Nuendo, Cubase, Halion, Hypersonic etc.) as well as Native Instruments (Absynth, Kontakt, Intakt etc.) IK Multimedia (Amplitube, Sampletank) Propellerhead’s Reason and EastWest Quantum Leap Orchestral software. This job required him to learn these programs like the back of his hand. He has a mastery of digital recording and can re-create the sound of a live band, orchestra, chamber ensemble, vocal group or electronica of any genre.

Jef spent the last 5 years as a full-time musician. He began by teaching piano, voice, and guitar lessons (at one time over 50 students!). After building his own studio, Blueshift Productions, he turned his focus to composition and recording/producing. He now takes local artists and builds their songs from start to finish. Most often playing all of the instruments, programming various Virtual Instruments, then recording the vocalist/instrumentalist to create a professional recording.

Jef is now focusing on writing music for films, commercials and promotional business videos. Examples can be heard on the music page. If you would like to employ Jef’s services please email him.
